October 31st

I made scarf and hat sets for the three grand-daughters. I also made several burp cloths and little wash cloths for baby-to-be Liam. Of course add that to the several papooses and car seat size blankies I have made him so far. Working on several afghans right now, not sure what I will do with them once they are finished. I am so pleased to have knitting and crochet as an outlet and stress reliever. It makes me happy!

October is over and what an interesting month it turned out to be. Keely had an absolute blast on the last day of the month (Halloween) to have her Papa rake up a big pile of leaves for her to play in and then to top of the day he took her Trick or Treating (mommy had to work, boo hoo) She was the prettiest Dorothy ever and loved it.

Children's Mercy

After having such a fortunate life I have found another way to give back some of the blessings I have received. Last night I finished orientation to volunteer at Children's Mercy South. I am so excited that I am on pins and needles waiting to hear from who will be my supervisor. I will be working once a week as a Child Life inpatient volunteer. I have also found a good outlet for my knitting/crochet compulsion. They will take any blankies/blankets/afghans I wish to donate. I have a bazillion hats done that I plan on taking down to the police department and asking if they want to have to distribute to anyone they might come across who is in need. Have finished 3 hat and scarf sets for the grand-daughters, but haven't the pictures on this computer so will post some pictures later.

Will the cicadas ever leave my head????

During 4th of July weekend my 6'2" 19 yr old nephew kicked me in the head, specifically my right ear underwater in our pool. The result of that was a perforated eardrum. Never having had the pleasure of this experience I had absolutely no idea how uncomfortable this injury can be. The hole in my eardrum was in no big hurry to heal up so it has been a drawn out process. Right now I am left with cicadas buzzing in my head 24/7. I can tell you there is nothing more annoying than that type of sound that will not go away EVER!!!! The doctors keep assuring me it will get better, but I confess to having my doubts. So far the little beasts continue to party on in my head. As a result I have been knitting and crocheting like a madwoman to distract myself. I continue to make cloths for the kitchen and I don't think I will ever use a sponge or dishcloth again after making my own with cotton yarn. They are with out a doubt the best ever. We are off to Denver next week to be with my mom for the 1st anniversary of my dad's passing and spend a couple of days with friends up in the mountains as well. As a thank you for our friends I made some wine bottle bags which we will fill with some nice bottles of wine. I also made baby-to-be Liam a car seat cozy and a beanie. Krissy has informed me that I need to remember he is a boy sooooo I made the cozy with camo yarn. It turned out adorable as did the hat (I used the camo yarn on that as well). Finally, my companion when I am sitting in my favorite chair knitting is Romeo, our gay blade Italian Greyhound. I love that little grey boy, he warms my heart and is a constant reminder of what it means to be unconditionally loved.

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

Had an amazing time participating in the 2009 Susan Komen Race for the Cure for breast cancer awareness. Krissy, Julianna, Jeff and I did the 3 mile walk along with 26,000 other souls. It was so cool to see so many people out in support of this disease. I walked in celebration of my mother-in-law who is a survivor. The weather was wonderful, a bit warm and a bit of a breeze. The route wound around downtown KC, around the Sprint Center, thru the Power and Light district ending up in front of Union Station. I absolutely loved it. My plan it to try and get the rest of my family to join in next year!

Baby to be Liam

Krissy and Jeff have decided on a name for soon to arrive baby boy Belzeski: Liam Ryan. So I now have a name for all the fun stuff I get to make for the little man. I thought for sure Krissy would notice that this is not even remotely girly but alas her comment when I showed this bib to her was that it looked like a rainbow! So I, in true Grandmotherly fashion, ignored her and forced her to sing my crafty praises. I think I shall next make a bib with camo yarn. You can't get too much more "boy" than that.

Oh to be young and free from inhibitions............Julianna and Keely had so much fun yesterday playing in the hose on a warm Sunday afternoon!!!

Little girl purses

I saw a pattern for a little purse for a little girl that I thought would be really cool to make for my grand-daughters (of which I have 3) and viola, the picture is the result. I changed the pattern to suit my needs and couldn't stop until I had made one for each one of them. I was like a woman possessed. Made all 3 of them in 2 days. 2 are knitted and one is crochet. I like them both equally and they were fun to make. Today is Julianna's 2nd birthday so I will be seeing all of them at her party. I can't wait to give them to the girls. I am hard at work making things for a baby boy now as well. Krissy is having a boy due in November. She is really excited and it will be our 2nd grandson. Zack will be 15 when he is born so it will have been 15 years since we had a baby boy to spoil. It's been a challenge to get away from thinking pink and purple!!! We were at Target last week and I told Krissy I just had to get something for the little guy. I gravitated towards a cream colored onesie with a bear on it and she said MOM, what is wrong with the obvious boy ones right next to it with dinosaurs and trucks on them??? They were blue. I sheepishly told her that I have been thinking girl for many years and she needed to give me time to adjust my habits, lol. Of course I got the dinosaurs.........and we had a good laugh! Good thing is that boys stuff is way cooler than when Zack was a baby so it will be lots of fun.
